During the April 24 Board of Education Meeting, the district announced the intermediate school start time change for the 2023-24 school year. Effective Thursday, Sept. 7, all intermediate schools (grades 4-6) within the Trenton Public School District will start at 8 a.m. and end at 2:30 p.m.
As a result of redistricting and redesigning our grade levels, the district opted to transport students by developmental levels, elementary/intermediate school, middle school, and high school. At this time, many of our schools at the intermediate level are experiencing late arrival/departure times due to the volume of schools transported at one time.
Currently, 19 schools out of 25 are transported during the intermediate and elementary school time slot; which has caused delays, missed instructional time, and frustration for staff, students, and families. In addition, like many other districts across the state and country, TPS is facing a bus driver shortage affecting the number of buses and routes possible at any one time.
As a result of the change for the 2023-24 school year, we will be transporting the following:
- 13 Elementary Schools (K-3), 8:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
- 9 Intermediate/Middle Schools (7-8), 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- 3 High Schools (9-12), 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
2023-24 School Hours for Intermediate and Middle Schools
- Full Day: 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- Reduced Day: 8 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
- Students will receive a grab-and-go lunch upon dismissal
- 1-Hour Delay: 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- 90 Minute Delay: 9:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
- 2-Hour Delay: 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Changes to the intermediate school start and end times will provide the best opportunity to get students to and from school on time.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to make our district a better place for our students, staff, and our TPS community.
